Lebanon asks Saudi Arabia for clarification on Prime Minister Hariri’s absence


Breaking News – Lebanon (NEWZ247) Lebanon’s president appealed to Saudi Arabia on Saturday to provide an explanation for why Saad Hariri had not back to Beirut because his wonder resignation as Prime Minister a week ago.

Hariri declared on 4 November in a television from Riyadh that he would be moving down from his post as Prime Minister that shocked the Lebanese political class.

President Michel Aoun on Saturday called at the kingdom to “make clear the motives which have averted the return of PM Hariri to Lebanon to be amongst his people and supporters.”

Aoun has but to formally take delivery of Hariri’s resignation and has criticised the occasions surrounding it as “unacceptable.”

In his shock statement, Hariri accused Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah of taking over his country and destabilising the wider region.

His announcement caused fears that Lebanon split into rival camps led by way of Hariri and Hezbollah would be caught up in spiralling tensions among Riyadh and Tehran.

US Secretary of state Rex Tillerson on Friday pronounced Hariri as “a robust partner” and warned in opposition to “any party, inside or outside Lebanon using Lebanon as a place for proxy battles or in any way contributing to insecurity in that country”.
